Laglio is often described as a sleepy village (hence laidback Laglio), which is just 10 minutes drive from the bustling Como Town, and so has excellent accessibility via the motorway network to Milan and cities further afield

Laglio is a small lakeside village sandwiched between the main road, which runs from Como Town to Sorico and between its larger neighbouring villages of Brienno and Moltrasio.  Laglio is compact evidenced by its postage stamp beach and equally small cemetery, which contains one of the tourist attractions of the village.  The Pyramid shaped funeral monument at a height of 20 metres is the resting place of Dr. Joseph Frank and has now become a focal point for the tourist cameras and camera phones

Laglio has Roman origins and its name comes from the Roman commander Lalius who no doubt housed his military in hamlet of Torriggia where there is an excellent vantage point at Torriggia mount.  Today the mount is a perfect place to watch the buzzards and Kites circle on the eddies

Today you can’t talk about Laglio without mentioning ‘the elephant in the room’, not that I would ever call George Clooney an elephant, but his name is synonymous with Laglio ever since he bought his villa Oleandra in 2002.

The population of Laglio less than 1000, which almost equals the number of VIP visitors it attracts, helped in part by its famous resident.  George, Laglio’s famous resident is not a ‘stay away’ celebrity he has the village close to his heart, when Laglio was struck twice in one year (2022) with floods, George was there getting his hands dirty with the clear up.  Suggesting he brings more to the village than the hoards of celebrity hunters.

Property in Laglio tends to be dominated by larger villas once owned by wealthy industrialists, villa Oleandra (George’s pad) was once owned by the Heinz family, which might suggest when Mr. Clooney bought it he was just playing ‘ketchup’

There are very few new builds in Laglio, those that are permitted tend to be luxury apartments with a price tag to match.  The price per square metre for property is just under €4,000 which rates higher than Como Town and one of the highest around the lake
