Cernobbio is situated just 2 km from Como, a short distance to the Swiss border (Chiasso 6.5km) and 40 km from Milano and so has excellent accessibility for commuters and visitors alike.  This charming medieval village has a population of around 6,400 and is the home of Villa d’Este one of Europe’s most exclusive hotels and which attracts VIPs from all over the world. One such VIP who purchased his home in nearby Laglio in 2001 can often be seen dining at Il Gatto Nero (The Black Cat) and if your luck is in you just might see ‘Gorgeous’ George Clooney tucking into one of the restaurants dishes or having an aperitif at Harry’s Bar

As with many if Lake Como’s villages narrow streets lead to and from old courtyards and piazzas one of the most beautiful is the lakeside Piazza Risorgimento also known as Riva di Cernobbio where promenading and people watching is the norm.

What makes Cernobbio charming is the contrast of the deep water of the lake and the mountain slopes in a compact space all within 7 km stretch from lake to mountain top

There are a number of attractions that visitors are drawn to some natural, some manmade or a combination of both.

A must for visitors to Cernobbio is a trip to Art Nouveau inspired Villa Bernasconi with its ‘house that talks’ immersive museum, which visitors rate highly (https://www.villabernasconi.eu/en/)

Other attractions which can be found in Cernobbio include Chiesetta della Madonna delle Grazie, il Giardino delle Valle, which is 2km from the centre of Cernobbio and a good 30 minute walk

Villa Erba dares back to the mid 1400 originally a monastery and today a magnificent villa and conference centre set in an historic park which contains a horse track (https://www.villaerba.it/en//)

Forthe enthusiastic hikers Sentee di Sort, 4 km uphill as might be expected, through wood land via the old route to Rovenna the reward breath taking panoramic lake views and Cernobbio centre.

For even more spectacular views Monte Bisbino is the place to hike to and at 7km from the centre of Cernobbio it will be a good morning or afternoon well spent, the mountain housed a garrison and trenches from WWII.

Cernobbio like most of the towns and villages along the shores of Lake Como contain a mixture of historic lakeside buildings many of which retain their character but serve a different function in 21st century, beautiful countryside with forests adorning the slopes of the mountains that were an important feature of recent historical events of the second world war

Property prices tend to reflect Cernobbio’s proximity to Como Town, its historical development and its attraction to wealthy Milanese purchasing second homes within easy access.  Given these observations then a price of €4000/square metre is an average for property in Cernobbio.
